When to vote
Election Day: Monday, October 19, 2026. Polling stations open across Alberta from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Advance voting is held the week before Election Day. Under the Election Act, which Elections Alberta states governs the conduct of this referendum, advance polls run Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Applied to this referendum, that would place advance voting on October 13 through October 17, 2026 — but this is inferred from the legislative framework rather than published by Elections Alberta for this specific referendum. Confirm at the official referendum page closer to the date, where the referendum-specific schedule and your nearest polling location will be posted.
What to bring
You'll need to bring identification to the polls. Accepted forms are listed on the Elections Alberta ID requirements page. In short, most voters can use one piece of government-issued photo ID showing their name and current address (e.g. an Alberta driver's licence). If you don't have photo ID with your current address, you can combine other documents — Elections Alberta's page lists every accepted combination.
Where to vote
Each elector is assigned a polling station based on their address. To find yours, use Elections Alberta's Where to Vote tool. The tool also indicates advance polling locations near you.
Who can vote
To vote in this provincial referendum you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day, and ordinarily resident in Alberta. Full eligibility rules are on the Elections Alberta — Who Can Vote page.
If you can't make it to a poll
Elections Alberta offers special ballot options for voters who can't attend an advance poll or Election Day in person — including voters away from their constituency, voters with mobility limitations, and incarcerated voters. See How to Vote for the application process.
